Intelligent Trains Demo Event

Belvoir Rail was thrilled to be involved in the Intelligent Trains Demo Event on Monday 16 January 2023.

More than 60 rail industry professionals travelled between Manchester and Bradford to see the capabilities of the infrastructure monitoring technology being pioneeredas part of the Northern Intelligent Trains programme.

The technology includes LiDAR, Radar, Thermal Imaging, Bogie Monitoring, Acoustic Monitoring and AI cameras. This combination of sensors and technologies is designed to make journeys by rail safer and more efficient and provide track and infrastructure information to help with maintenance planning.

Among the many benefits of this technology is the ability for early identification of both track and train engineering issues which can be addressed as part of a planned maintenance regimerather than having to react when things go wrong. Intelligent infrastructure monitoring will allow engineering teams to focus their time on fixing rather than finding faults.

Infrastructure issues are costly, present safety risks and can significantly disrupt the network.Infrastructure monitoring provides data that allows for strategic planning, improved decision-making, optimised maintenance, enhanced efficiency, and prevention of asset failure.

The Intelligent Trains Project is a great example of how a shared vision and collaborative work between operators, asset owners and the supply chain can achieve amazing things! Delivering a smarter, safer and more efficient railway.

Northern’s ‘Intelligent Trains’ programme is being delivered in partnership with Network Rail, Belvoir Rail, Yellow Rail, DG8 and Modux.
